Sunday, August 3rd, 2008: San Diego won't soon forget the display of raw power put on today by Ben Grieve of the San Francisco Giants. He victimized the Padres by pounding three pitches out of Petco Park. The homers sparked his club to a 6-1 win and got him a spot in the league record book.

"I got three pitches down the pipe and popped them," Grieve told reporters. "Today I was in a groove... tomorrow I could just pop up the same pitches and go oh-for-three."

In addition to the homers, he collected 6 RBIs and scored 3 runs.

Ben Grieve hit a two-run home run off Kevin Slowey in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Kevin Slowey in the 4th, flied out in the 6th and hit a three-run home run off Kevin Slowey in the 8th.

This year Grieve has hit at a .340 clip with 81 hits, 14 home runs, 51 RBIs and 47 runs scored.

Sunday, June 15th, 2008: For the newcomer to professional baseball, today's amateur draft is a rite of passage. Every young player in the country is filtered through the draft pool, assessed, reassessed, scrutinized and run through several mock drafts even before they get to the real thing. Toronto, Boston, Atlanta, Seattle and Milwaukee will have the first five picks. The top ten players, as rated by BNN, are:

1. Andrew McCutchen, 21 year-old center fielder out of college.
2. Bud Norris, 23 year-old starting pitcher out of college.
3. Brett Anderson, 20 year-old starting pitcher out of college.
4. Daniel Hudson, 21 year-old starting pitcher out of college.
